coffee

Rehan sat in the café, staring outside, reminiscing the good old days.

Those were the days when there were no hushed up mornings, no fleeting deadlines and days were not segmented into hours of meaningful existence.

She was like the sweet smell of jasmine which lingers filling you with intoxicated frenzy, long after you have stepped away from its vicinity.

They drifted apart and he got busy following the hackneyed course of life.

He bumped into her one day. She looked the same, yet she looked different.

He got to know that she was a widow.

He remembered how she used to call herself a ‘coffee fanatic’.

Today, as they sat next to each other, she said she does not drink coffee anymore.

Where was his ‘coffee fanatic’?

He was determined to bring her back. For her sake and for his sake, mostly. Yes, he was a selfish man.

He called out, “Two cups of latte please”, while she looked at him unbelievingly.

Coffee, friendship and good old days – so very identifiable. Lovely read.

  2. Aha! Meha! Coffee and the fanatics can do loads and spurn magic like poison. Ha! Fantastic. Reminds me of CCD tagline, A lot can happen over coffee that you interpreted in a super intelligent manner.

  3. Sounds like he is trying to turn her back into what she was before she changed because he doesn’t want to let go and embrace the new person that she has become. I think it is rude of him to order her a coffee when she told him she didn’t drink it anymore. Great story!

  4. Short and sweet. I believe her unbelieving look will turn to immense happiness at rediscovering being a coffee fanatic. Sometimes, it’s those old habits that bring a person back to their normal self. Hope she gets her groove back and also hope that the two of them find the time they spend together worthwhile and enjoyable.
